Flood Management
Sustainable
water sensitive urban design and floodplain management are
some of the most complex and controversial issues presently
faced by our community. River landscapes are productive,
highly valued and support a range of competing interests
including industry, agriculture, housing and transport
infrastructure. Historical development of floodplains has
also removed vast areas of diverse natural habitat,
substantially increasing the conservation value of remaining
ecosystems.
Flooding
and floodplain management is a field that requires the
seamless integration of engineering, ecological, economic
and social sciences, as decisions made on the basis of flood
studies will inevitably have highly significant implications
in each of these areas.
Belleng
VDM is well equipped to offer a complete ranges of
services in the management of small or large scale flooding
issues. Our in house expertise and project management
experience provides the capacity to undertake:
-
Reviews
of historical rainfall and flooding data
-
Comprehensive
topographical and hydraulic surveys of catchment and
stream morphology
-
Community
surveys to gauge the extent and frequency of flooding
problems
-
Hydrological
and hydraulic model development to analysis the cause of
existing flood problems
-
Predictive
modelling to gauge the impact of development projects on
existing flood conditions, or to ascertain the
effectiveness of proposed flood solutions
-
Environmental
impact assessment of proposed flood solutions
-
Cost
benefit analysis of flood management options and
presentation of triple bottom line scenario analysis
-
Hydraulic
Impact Assessment
-
Master Drainage Scheme
Belleng
VDM maintains a full suite of hydraulic modelling
software so as to ensure that the package used is the most
technologically robust and appropriate for the scale and
type of catchment being assessed. Additionally, we are able
to prepare models and maps which can be interfaced with GIS
to provide a user friendly end product, or high quality
visual aid for use in community consultation. Software
used includes:
-
hydrological
modelling -
XPRAFTS, XPSWMM, RORB
-
hydraulic
and flood modelling - TUFLOW 2D, ISIS, MIKE II, HEC-RAS, MIKE 21, MIKE Flood.
-
GIS
mapping - MAP INFO, ARC VIEW and VERTICAL MAPPER
-
12D, Terrain Modelling
