Stormwater Management
Holistic
stormwater management is a discipline which has evolved
rapidly in Australia over the last 10 years, directly
reflecting our need to reduce the impact of urban
development on scarce water resources. It is a field which
blends the sciences of engineering, ecology, urban design,
landscape architecture and socio-economics, and is viewed by
government, industry and the community as a fundamental step
towards our sustainable future.
Belleng
VDM have the in-house capacity to manage complex
and integrated stormwater management projects, applying
expertise in:
-
aquatic
habitat assessment
-
water
quality assessment and monitoring
-
predictive
storm flow and runoff quality modelling using AQUALM and
MUSIC software packages
-
design
of stormwater drainage systems
-
selection,
design and commissioning of stormwater quality
improvement devices, for example litter traps and
artificial wetlands
-
calculation
of whole of site water balance models, and development
of strategies and designs for stormwater and effluent
harvesting and recycling (water sensitive urban design)
-
natural
channel design, urban stream rehabilitation and waterway
management plans
Belleng
VDM offers a service which provides high quality
outcomes over the complete duration of a stormwater
management project. We are fully conversant with the strict
requirements of legislation and local government regulators,
and have a strong track record in the negotiation of
approvals for storm water treatment systems.
Our
technical capability includes use of the following
hydrological, hydraulic and water quality modelling
software:
-
ground
water modelling - MODFLOW
-
hydrological
modelling - XPRAFTS and XPSWMM
-
hydraulic
and flood modelling - TUFLOW 2D, ISIS, MIKE II, EXTRAN,
XPSWMM, HEC-RAS and RMA2.
-
Water
quality modelling - MIKE II, AQUALM, XPSWMM and MUSIC
-
GIS
mapping - MAP INFO, ARC VIEW and VERTICAL MAPPER
Over
the course of a typical project, tasks and deliverables
might include:
-
collection
of water quality data and preparation of a report
establishing baseline aquatic conditions
-
definition
of catchment runoff and flooding characteristics, and
development of dynamic computerised models of pollutant
export and treatment structure efficiencies
-
preparation
of construction phase erosion and sediment control
plans, and site rehabilitation strategies.
-
preparation
of designs and management plans, including full planting
and landscaping specifications for the construction and
maintenance of artificial wetlands or naturalised
drainage channels
