Ecological Site Assessment
Ecological
assessment is an essential component of any project which
seeks to either alter, protect or enhance our natural
resources or landscapes. It is only through a detailed
knowledge of the interactions between plants, animals, soils
and the aquatic resources of an area, that constraints and
opportunities in their management can be wholly appreciated.
Belleng
VDM are able to provide a comprehensive range of
ecological services, with a strong track record in the
preparation of environmental impact assessment and
management plans. As well as considerable in-house
expertise, we frequently engage a number of specialist
botanical and zoological sub-consultants who have the years
of local experience necessary to efficiently and
comprehensively record floral species diversity and animal
activity on a site. Our strength in conservation planning
and GIS mapping also provides the capacity to develop
threatened species conservation plans, or wildlife corridor
establishment strategies throughout entire catchments or
local government areas.
We
are able to provide:
-
Botanical
survey, including determination of the regional
significance of species and vegetation types.
-
Fauna
survey, including classification and mapping of habitat,
for example nesting trees, corridor use or the extent of
animal territories.
-
Rare
and endangered species identification, assessment and
management plans.
-
Long
term monitoring to gauge fauna use or floral
recolinisation of restored or managed sites
-
Preparation
of mitigation plans to minimise development impact on
significant species and habitats.
-
Habitat
translocation, restoration and management plans, with
expertise in ecosystems ranging from rainforest to
estuaries
-
Development
plans and open space management strategies which balance
the use of natural areas with conservation objectives,
including the integration of water quality management
and educational and recreational opportunities.
